Craft of Communication is a new kind of training company for Managers and Executives who wish to develop their Communication Skills. The company was set up by John Abulafia, the international theatre and opera director. His experience and skills are the bedrock of this new method of training. He is now in great demand as a Management Trainer, Executive Coach and expert in Communication Skills in both the private and public sectors.

The Craft of Communication brings together John Abulafia’s unique range of skills and knowledge rooted in his twenty years’ experience as a director of theatre and opera (National Theatre, English National Opera, Glyndebourne etc) and a trainer of actors and singers (RADA, Guildhall, Royal College Opera School etc.) His Communications work is rooted in a deep understanding of the nature of Performance and the psychology of Audiences, Leaders and Teams.

John’s starting point as a Management Trainer and Executive Coach is:

The moment you start to communicate your message to others - whether to an audience of 500 plus, a small group, or one-to-one you have initiated a Performer - Audience relationship.

What you learn:

Within the first twenty minutes, you learn how to use the dynamics of the Performer - Audience relationship to enhance your communication. John shows how small changes to posture, breathing and voice can transform the way audiences, clients or colleagues perceive you.

How you learn:

Craft of Communication courses are full of action: specially devised games and role-play are balanced with analysis, observation, self assessment, feedback. Each course is summarised in a practical, punchy, useful manual containing advice on how to apply the training long after the course is over.

Why The Craft of Communication?

A Craft is solid: the skills you learn have a sound theoretical basis in Performance Theory.

A Craft is human: what you learn is rooted in the intensely human communication skills honed over the centuries by performers and storytellers. A Craft can be mastered by anyone who’s prepared to work at it.

“Audiences FEEL before they think.”

This doesn’t mean that audiences do not think. It means that the way an audience thinks is coloured by the way they feel - particularly the way they feel about the speaker.

Client Feedback 1:

I’d certainly recommend using John again, he was lovely, and one of that very rare breed of man who doesn’t interrupt your sentence with something that he HAS to say and invites you to speak before him.”

“He gave a sense of enthusiasm to the topic; his dramatic background gave him a very interesting approach. Enough depth on one hand, but on the other he gave very practical hints as to how to improve ourselves.”
